Budgeting and Value for Money.

Task: To work out your budget and make sure that you do not lose money at the end.
You have to purchase as many items as you need from the list below. You are going to hold a Bake Sale and make cookies and muffins.Things to keep in mind:

  • You have borrowed 500RMB total to purchase ingredients and to set up your stall (remember you will need to give out change to those people who buy your food.)
  • You will need to repay this money at the end with an interest of 5% per day
  • You are going to sell them in the HS at WAB (how many potential customers will you get? Where can you find out that information?)
  • The money you make must cover the cost of ingredients and the interest so you can repay the money. Also, you will need to make a profit so you can buy items for your organisation.
  • Find good and easy recipes to follow. (You may need to work on the ratio of ingredients.)
  • How much are your going to sell your items for? (If they are too expensive no one will buy them, too cheap and you could run into debt)
  • From receiving the money, to holding your bake sale, to calculating your funds you will use up 5 days.
You now need to work out your bake sale.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you going to travel to every shop?
  • Are you going to buy from just one shop?
  • Which ingredients are the best value for money?
  • What ingredients do you need?
  • How much of the 500RMB will you need to spend?
  • How much interest is that over the 5 days?
  • How much will you need to make?
  • How much are you going to sell things for?
  • How are you going to schedule the 5 days?
  • When are you going to hold the bake sale?
